Stop this train....

I blinked and something happened between yesterday and today. Trevor walked up to his white board and started "writing". I heard him say "T. R. E. V. O. R". When I looked over he was actually writing his name. He did it over and over. I helped him with his "E's" but other than that it was all him! I am really impressed!

Then he wanted to take his Cars book to bed so that he could read to himself. Awesome! He has memorized the book, not quite a real reader yet but it is a great first step in confidence in reading.

We had a bit of a rough evening since he got tired of my 4 mile run about 2.5 miles in but that seems like a lifetime ago, now!!

Double 15 Dominos- for 3.5 year olds

I'm not an early childhood development expert, which is a testament to an undergraduate degree not being worth more than the paper it's printed on since I majored in Early Childhood Development! But, being home bound and working with a boy who loves to dump out a mess, counting and colors...I made up this game and it is awesome!! and let's face it, we never have enough party guests to use Double 15 Dominos.

1.  I spread out all the dominos facing up.
2.  Asked Trevor which color dots we would "eye spy" first.
3.  Counted the dots for that color and started hunting for purple sixes.
4.  The first color picked will yield 16 dominos. Next color 15 and so on. That is another opportunity to count and is a fun feeling of accomplishment.
5.   Keep going until they are all put back away in the box. So, you also get a mess cleaned up while you are at it.

I did have to play some zone defense and say, "I see some in this area" in the beginning to help him stay enganged rather than frustrated.

102 + fever...day 3 and counting!

I really hate when he is sick. I can honestly say I have never seen him this sick before. Running a 102 fever most of the time an got up to 103.8 last night. He lays on the couch really out of it. He is still drinking milk and water but refuses all food (even fruit snacks)...you know he is sick then. He even asked me to turn off Thomas so that he could go take a nap. Let's hope this virus runs it course soon and that I am immune. I really can't miss anymore work!

Potty Prizes

Trevor is making us look more and more like Tiger Woods' parents, each day.  He loves golf so much that he could hit buckets of balls all day and now he will go poop on the potty, on his own, for 2 golf tees.  He has accumulated 12 new tees in the last 2 days!

We floated the possibility of getting brand new golf balls if he tries a new food.   If that works, golf will be my favorite sport too.  At least tees are cheap!

Trevors First Tree Climbing!

I can't believe Darren got far enough away to take this picture...he is more over protective than I am.

Mission Impossible

I know that I have said that Elmo is a marketing gold mine, but apparently the"diamond" approach to finding Elmo bedding makes it virtually impossible to redo Trevor's room in Elmo (which was his choice).  Sesame Street bedding is so "rare" and unavailable that I almost can't even believe it.  Now, I am on a mission which means this will occupy my time and frustrate me to no end.  You can't even buy Elmo fabric.  This is insane, people...it's Elmo!

Watch Out David Beckham!

The look of determination and focus on his little face really cracks me up!

Mrs. Woods

Went to a birthday party at Little Gym last night. Trevor spent most of the time "shooting baskets" but got the hang of jumping to a bar, hanging like a monkey and then letting go for a big "drop". He is not really that social (he can't be exactly like me!), he plays in the vicinity of other kids. He's not antisocial, maybe it is just a result of him being an only child with divorced parents so he is used to just being the center of our attention (and...Man, do we give it to him).

This is with the exception of Sophie! They just play right next to each other like 2 peas in a pod. They didn't need to take turns because they just do everything together, at the same time. Sophie is a little more adventurous than Trevor so she would jet off to do something else and Trevor would beckon her like an overbearing boyfriend "Sophie, Sophie"...as if to say, "come back here, you can't leave me". hmmm, we might have to work on how Trevor treats women!

We ARE overbearing parents, God forbid that he ever get hurt while one of us is (or even worse, caught NOT) watching. I know this isn't good for him. I am working on it. Darren has it worse than I do. He is so very protective of Trevor and doesn't have the same desensitizing amount of time that I spend with Trevor where he physically can't be my only focus. I let him watch Yo Gabba Gabba so that I can put on make up if we are running late in the morning. It's a necessary evil, even though we had decided that Trevor wouldn't watch television. But, that was when we were co-parenting and had support for each other at home. The only way that I can be a sane mother is to feel like I can do most things and that I don't have to do it all, even if I am by myself.

Back to the title of this post "Mrs. Woods". No, not THAT one...I am over that chapter in my life and am so happy it's not on TV all the time, anymore. I actually mean the senior Mrs. Woods. More than once, last night, I found myself embarrassed at the attention that Trevor's "talent" brings.  Combine that with the fact that he looks like a mini Brett Favre (minus the scruff) and is the size of a 3 year old and people can't believe it when I say that he is 2.  So, now I say, he was 2 in February....

I think that Trevor is just am amazing mimic-er and both Darren and I enjoy watching him shoot baskets, hit baseballs, catch footballs, kick soccer balls, throw footballs, hit golf balls, dribble basketballs.  Darren has unlimited energy to pay sports with him and he mimics everything that he does.  I can see him imitating his Dad's jump, fad-a-way and he is always encouraged because we say "almost", "close" when he misses.  Missing and hitting it are almost equally as praised.  I admit that just hearing him say "from way downtown" when he backs up away from the basket makes me smile.  I encourage it.  Let's just hope that we stay sane in all of this and that he still loves sports this much when he is good at them.  The dedication that it takes to be truly "good" at a sport almost always kills the love of the sport in a young person.

How's about some Trevor quotes...

3:25 am- "I want water, mama's bed, I want water, mama's bed" And, so it begins!  Until now it had been an infrequent enough occurrence and usually when he is sick for him to wake up in the night and end up in my bed.  I should have known there would be trouble when he popped up with a crazy smile one morning and said "I wake up in mama's bed" like he had just won the lottery!  His Dad had told me that he had ended up in his bed this weekend so I pulled out the steely resolve this morning and went and got a water before entering his room.  I gave him the water and said, "Trevor, you can have some water and I will rock you a little but then you are sleeping in Trevor's bed"  It totally worked, so I must stick with it.

Winter in Dallas

You don't really think about inches of snow when you think about living in the South.  But we did get our fair share of winter weather this year.  Not nearly what other folks around the country endured but 4 days of University Closure do to weather and unsafe driving conditions was unprecedented.  Trevor did not like the snow.  He would just look up at me and say "I carry you, I carry you" which means pick me up.  Cabin Fever would have set in but we decided to brave the roads for the short drive to the mall on the 3rd day.

The play place at the Galleria mall is nuts...but Trevor loves falling in and out of the snake.

And, on the 5th day....we went to Lowes.  Elmo is a very crazy driver!

The Holiday's were busy....a bunch of updates missing!!

The multiple city Christmas Tour:  Arizona from Dec 17-22, Christmas with Nanny and us in Dallas, Colorado from Dec 25-30, New Year's in Dallas, Illinois from Jan 4-8.  Now, when you ask Trevor "what are we doing today?" he says "airplane or airport".  He was quite the expert traveler and I will admit that I took a lot of pleasure in Trevor looking at me and saying "why is that baby crying?" and almost everyone who passed us on their way out of the plane telling me what a wonderful child I had.  I mean, if I were going to feel like the worst mother ever if he went off like a devil in a church like the other kids...I might as well revel in the feeling of being a superior Mom since he was an angel...right?  Ego boost...check!  My favorite time passer on the plane was Trevor standing in my lap, looking at all the "people" (his new word for strangers) and messing up my hair thoroughly, giving me a "aircut" and then saying "that's better" with my hair in my eyes and my mouth!  Clikc HERE for pictures from our adventurous holiday season.

Waiting for the DING!                                                                                                          Fruit Snacks!!
